"There's never enough money," Angela Davis says. "It's a very humbling experience, yet you always wish you had more money to give away."
Davis is the director of grantmaking for the Madison Community Foundation, which has awarded nearly $700,000 in grants to 12 Madison-area nonprofits, the Wisconsin State Journal reports.
The funds come from donors to support five focus areas: arts and culture, community development, the environment, learning, and organizational capacity building.
"We are very thrilled and humbled to be able to make these awards because of the generosity of this community," Davis says.
Among the recipients are Black Girl Magic Educational Services, the Center for Black Excellence, Dane County Parks, the Goodman Community Center, Logan's Hearts & Smiles, the Madison Public Market Foundation, the Madison Reading Project, Madison Youth Choirs, Music Academy of Sun Prairie, WI, the Urban League of Greater Madison, and Urban Triage.
